VAL VERDE COMEDIES 1976

This was made on the animographe, a machine build in the early sixties. The animation consists of short dissolves from one drawing to the next. Unlike all classical 2D animation which starts with key drawings and breakdowns and in-betweens, this I did from one drawing to the next, imagining continuous camera moves. The drawings were quite small, Jean De Joux closed his studio 3 weeks after I started the project, and the animographe disappeared into storage. Nobody knows where they ended up. I could never really finish the movie, but it stands as is. I loved working on it. Tex Avery visited the studio and looked over my shoulder and said: “Animation is a lot of hard work”. I think he meant to encourage me….
